Board members sought for Hereford Enterprise Zone Limited

Skylon Park, Hereford Enterprise Zone is a high profile, successful private/public sector initiative.  We prepare and promote industrial land for sale and development to create investment and quality jobs for the benefit of Hereford and the wider county.

Skylon is approaching 50% build out.  Already 44 acres have been sold, representing 20 investments with 2 direct developments altogether totalling 450,000 sq ft of new workspace.  More sales are in negotiation.  38 companies operate from the park, employing over 660 people, with an additional 1,000 jobs identified in their forward plans.

Hereford Enterprise Zone Ltd was created in 2012 to take the work of the Zone forward, connecting the landowners into the wider supporting partnership, including the business community, and to catalyse business interest and investment at the Park.

We are seeking to appoint additional members from the private sector to ensure that we have the capacity and skills to take the work of the Zone into its exciting next phase.

Work on 2 major assets will be starting in early 2019. The first is the £7m refurbishment of the Shell Store, which will create business incubator and grow on space and a development centre for business/student interaction. The second, a £9m Cyber Centre, is a joint venture between the University of Wolverhampton and Herefordshire Council which will provide business accommodation, secure training and educational facilities and a base for undertaking specialist research and development.  Both will be operational in 2020.

Board members will be highly respected individuals with a proven track record in the business community, and passionate about the future economic well-being of Herefordshire.  Given our current priorities, a background in defence and security, (particularly cyber security) or advanced manufacturing would be valuable, but this should not be a deterrent to otherwise suitably qualified candidates.  We are also keen to address equality, diversity and gender representation issues.

Board members are expected to attend 6 meetings per year, and to act as ambassadors of the Zone, inputting to priorities and promoting its work to prospective investors, partners, agencies and the business community.

The appointment will be for a period of 3 years and will be unpaid.

A candidate’s pack can be obtained from the Enterprise Zone Managing Director on 01432 383616 or by emailing mark@skylonpark.co.uk

Completed submissions should be returned by 5.00pm on Friday 8 March 2019.
